I had a trusty little laptop.
It was always by my side
Until one day quite recently
When it just up and died
It had been a good computer
A real faithful friend
It did everything I asked of it
Right up until the end
I missed my old computer
And my mood - it was quite bleak
So very soon I gave in
And for another one did seek
With some expert advice from Brother
(And my dad to pay the bill)
I got a newer model
The old one’s hole to fill.
The new one came with demos
Of games of every kind
Some just to entertain you
Some to exercise your mind.
I especially liked “Chuzzles”
A gorgeous little game.
And also “Virtual Villagers”
Where survival is the aim.
All these new, fun demos
Did help my heart to melt,
But other things were missing.
At least that’s how it felt.
Most noticeable was Office.
Its absence is a problem.
I miss Word and PowerPoint.
What will I do without them?
So now I must buy Office
Without breaking the bank
But finally that’s possible.
www.itsnotcheating.com.au, I thank.
But there is some more good news-
A fantastic competition
With prizes for the greatest blogs
That give this deal a mention.
When I heard this great news
To my new computer did I run
To write a blog to enter
A poem just for fun.
If my blog did win
I’d think it was quite funny
Because www.mycanvascard.com.au
Would give me lots of money
But if a better blog is found
And I don’t win the money
Contiki might give me a trip
To
To win this fantastic trip
I now have to rely on you
Because to win this prize
Many comments are the cue
So go ahead, don’t waste time
Write me a little comment
And if I’m really lucky
I might win a great prize from it.
What a legacy my old laptop
Would then be able to leave
If I ended by winning a prize
When I started out to grieve.

Great poem! I really liked it. How long did it take you to write it? My mother and I want to know, who's your honey? :)
I like the way you set up your blog. it looks alot better with the graphics up the top.
Great poetry. I hope you do well.
"My Honey" is just a poetic device because it is a trip for two- But it would make a great Honeymoon...
How boring... I thought i could start some gossip... :)
Oh, and I forgot to say that it took me about half an hour to write.
Fascinating, very interesting. Enjoyable, especially knowing said dead lappy. I see one is trying to keep the family tradition alive of scamming free stuff from Microsoft...
It's better than Vogon poetry!
Can I come to England if you win?
I don't know, I did enjoy the ode to the piece of green putty I found in my armpit one midsummer's morning.
And I have a suspicion that you might well be the one going to England. More wins for you I see.
Ah, a fellow Galactic Hitch-hiker.
See if you can place this quote then "Yes, I've read a poem - dont faint".
Can't place, my bad. I haven't read the books yet in my defence. I have however listened to the record (4 sides, oh yeah) multiple times, and am looking for books to read. I have watched the movie, but that isn't the storyline so its not a biggie. And the game is legendary too. It's possibly the most challenging game I've ever played, but it drips with command line coolness. Some cred here please!
That quote isnt a HHGTTG reference.
And it is from something I know you've seen.
P.S. do you think Emma based this on my own poem "Lament for the 5510"? Actually - I just reread my poem (on my website) and it's really lame. This one is much better.
It definitely has the same sort of theme, but I'm not sure that it is actually based on it. It could be, but I don't think so. First of all, its a bit short, so that would be a bit of an issue, but the overall theme of them both are somewhat similar. I'd sue her for plagiarism, you never know what you can get! Lol, that's assuming you would ever want to sue your sister...
I'd be tempted to say that it wasn't based on it, but I can see what you're talking about.
Ok- Its not based on Rob's poem. Mostly because I'd completely forgotten that he had written that one (if I ever knew).
Now I will have to check it out, though, just to see how similar it is.
I have now read Rob's poem. It is nothing like mine apart from the fact that it has "lament for" in the title and it is written about a piece of technology.
Well done!
I hope it all comes together.
Terry
Dont worry - I wont be sueing my sister - especially not while there's a chance she might take me to England.
Although - if she wins the money...
The entire quote is actually
"Way I remember it, albatross was a ship's good luck, 'til some idiot killed it. Yes, I've read a poem. Try not to faint."
And its from Serenity
Well - I was close.
I'm her 'Honey' and she's taking me to England to see the Queen.
Well, you know I pulled a Tori. I've been trying to send you commens and it kept rejecting me! I decided to make another account. I did just what I thought my other account was but I guess I was wrong... becuase it went through... Oh well, maybe I'll remember this one... Ha, ha... now back to the comments I'd written earlier or at least tried to... My cat says hi to fidget (really). And fidget will you take a picture of the queen for me?
You know i got on here to see the 20 comments and found two little boys chating amongst themselves... Shocking can't you two talk except on Emma's blog? :) So emma I'll take to you! You seem to be well versed. I'm not familiar with Serenity. what's it about. It sounds funny.
Hey I know what happen'd! I didn't activate my account... oops... Now I know... :)
In reply to "Me"- aka Dienece
Serenity is funny, but its probably not really your sort of movie because it is a science fiction.
Its best describe as an old style western set in space in the future.
Ah now I know who "me" is.
Welcome to Emma's blog.
Hey I don't know what I did but I found my account again. How'd I lose it? Don't ask me I have no idea... Talk to Emma's dead computer. I think it might have gotten mad and did something. I blame the dead computer... Anyway, I got on here before to leave a message hopefully this works... testing, testing...
It worked! now... Old western set in space. That would be very odd... Hi Robert! :) thanks for the welcome. by the way is fidget asleep? I asked her (it is her right?) a question!
It's a pretty good chance. Fidget is normally either asleep, half-asleep, or eating.
She's probably been doing more of the first 2 and less of the 3rd while she's been sick though.
Yeah that is true. Also her human typist is only home occassionally so she doesn't blog often.
Only a few days left in the competition now Loopy!
I had actually completely forgotten about it- other things on my mind I guess.
Oh, and its almost Dad's birthday as well.
Excellent poem with very good meter and rhyme.
I really enjoyed your poem! Truly, I felt so sad at the death of your computer and even now I can feel tears welling up as I read your poem again! Good luck!
Hello! Michael (Kerrison) here. Great poem, Ive read it before. I hope you win your trip!
Nice poem kiddo
Mum
You had fun!
Finally got around to look at it :)
I havent checked your blog in ages, probably since mine died. But here I am back again to help you win a competition. I hope you are planning on packing me in your suitcase if you win.
From Tori (cause I have forgotten my google account pasword again)

Nice poem! I wrote a poem last night but it wasn't as good.
Hope you winz!
Ok I just tried to post a comment. I'm not sure it ever made it... What I said was (in short). Great poem. Wish I could go to Englad with you if you win but "my honey" wouldn't be very happy with me if I did. Ok I'll try this again. I know you're at home right now waiting for me to call but I'm trying to help your blog... if I could just figure out how to post a comment. love, Dienece Ps please be patient with me!
Oh goody! I finally did it! Ok Emma I'm going home now! :) call you soon! Dienece
But what if you win second prize in the competition - you'll have yet another laptop to add to the collection.
Great Poem. Don't take Rob with you - he doesn't deserve it after all his accusations of plagiarism. Your mother is far more deserving! Libby
Hey Emma, Your poetry is awesome :) I love to write poetry myself, but being able to read someone else's poetry is refreshing. Keep on with it!! Hope you get to go to England :)
I tried to add a comment yesterday, but it hasn't appeared so I guess I missed some important step. Trying again ... with advice from 1 successful blogger and 1 unsuccessful blogger. One wonders how many comments you've missed from dummies like me (whoops ... I guess I'd best be careful how I describe others)
Like your poem. Not being a computer nerd I also liked learning that you could download Microsoft programme for free from itsnotcheating.com.
okay ... now I'm going to type in the word verification, select Anonymous and hope this gets through.
Hope you WIN!!!
My memory you did jog,
Please read my blog!
I came, I saw,
Made comments by the score.
What, can't you find them either?
That's cause they are in the ether!
That's awful...
I'd best leave the poetry to you Em.
Nice! Good luck on winning! :)
Does anyone know who 'mr youth' is. I have no idea- and I'm a bit curious.
Wow. Lots of comments. There is a really easy way to cheat at this though: just type one letter per post and post 1,954,562.967324631 times. Sorry, just felt like typing a random number. Hope you win! Mike
Come on- does no one know who Mr Youth is?
Who are you?
How exactly do you post .97 of a time?
And I'm not Mr Youth - I'm too old for that.
Congrats Loopy - can I come to England with you?
Hi Emma,
Dave here from Microsoft. I have been trying to contact you re: your blog.
Can you please contact me asap at t-davh@microsoft.com
